Early red onions

Early red onions

While we wait for the tomatoes and strawberries, you can still see red in the kitchen garden. The red onion Fire King (Dobies) was sown in the plug box in August and planted in the manure bank in October. The tops started to settle just over a week ago, so today they need to be harvested and hung to dry. The variety is not suitable for long-term storage, as the bulbs begin to germinate already in early autumn. But why should they also be stored for so long?
