The salads are transplanted

Peter Norris

The lettuce plants have held Store Moving Day today. We have not been able to eat the greenhouse's about 50 overwintered salads before making room for planting the tomatoes. And since the chickens are currently stuffed with dandelion leaves, they can not bear to eat a lot of salad. So the salads were transplanted to a smaller open-air bed, and if you get a large enough lump of root with you, the plants tend to do reasonably well - especially with the prospect of somewhat cooler weather in the coming week. 20-30 spring onions have also changed residence. In a month's time, according to the plan, a couple of courgettes will be planted in the bed - but by that time we (or the chickens) must have eaten the salad.
